The Matter AI application allows you to intelligently examine your LEAP matter's correspondence to provide you with instant insights and information. 

Matter AI searches through the matter's correspondence items such as documents, emails, attachments, scanned PDFs and even handwritten notes.

From a LEAP matter, you can ask Matter AI to assist with a range of activities such as:

  • Check matter details and dates
  • Draft documents
  • Draft emails
  • Summarise documents
  • Compare multiple documents for discrepancies
  • Extract key terms and concepts from documents
  • Analyse financial transactions
  • Retrieve contact information
  • Make queries about important dates and appointments

Matter AI adheres to strict data security standards to ensure the confidentiality of all you and your client's sensitive information within LEAP. The Matter AI Privacy Policy can be accessed by clicking on Terms & Conditions at the bottom of the Chat History window. How to Access

To access Matter AI:

  1. Open a matter.

  2. Make sure you're on the Details & Correspondence tab.

  3. Click Matter AI Chat within the LEAP AI ribbon to open the feature.

    The Matter AI application will open in a new window.

You can also click New Chat to start a new chat for About document(s) or About a folder.

New Chat About Document(s)

 

You are able to start a new chat to ask questions relating to specific documents only. You may select an individual document or multiple documents. 

  1. Click New Chat for the chat options to appear.

  2. Select About document(s).

  3. Search for a document from the matter correspondence using the search field or select from any recent documents below.

  4. (Optional) Use the X icon to remove any selected documents.

  5. Click Start chat.

New Chat About a Folder

 

You are able to start a new chat to ask questions relating to documents in a specific folder only. You may select an individual folder or multiple folders. 

  1. Click New Chat for the chat options to appear.

  2. Select About a folder.

  3. Search for a folder from the matter correspondence using the search field or select from any recent folders below.

  4. (Optional) Use the X icon to remove any selected documents.

  5. Click Start chat.

To access Matter AI:

  1. Open a matter.

  3. Search for a folder from the matter correspondence using the search field or select from any recent folders below.

  4. (Optional) Use the X icon to remove any selected documents.

  5. Click Start chat.

Alternative Methods of Accessing Matter AI

 

You can also access Matter AI by creating a document chat for specific documents within a matter.

Single Document

 

  1. From a Matter's Correspondence List, right-click on any document and click Matter AI - New Document Chat.

    A new Matter AI chat for the selected documents will open in a new window.

Multiple Documents

 

  1. From a Matter's Correspondence List, hold down the Ctrl key and click the documents you would like to interact with.

  2. Right-click on any of the selected documents and click Matter AI - New Document Chat.

    A new Matter AI chat for the selected documents will open in a new window.

You will see the selected document names in the top right corner of the Matter AI chat window instead of the matter number. 

Hover over the + icon to display all selected documents.

From here, you are able to ask certain questions relating to the documents selected such as "Are there any conflicting statements in these documents" etc.

This allows the Matter AI to focus on specific data rather than filtering through other unrelated documents, providing you with a more efficient and detailed response.

Single Document

 

  1. From a Matter's Correspondence List, right-click on any document and click LEAP AI > Matter AI - New Document Chat.

    A new Matter AI chat for the selected documents will open in a new window.

Multiple Documents

 

  1. From a Matter's Correspondence List, click to select the documents you would like to interact with.

  2. Right-click on any of the selected documents and click LEAP AI > Matter AI - New Document Chat.

    A new Matter AI chat for the selected documents will open in a new window.

You will see the selected document name at the top of the window with the number of additional documents displayed in the top right corner.

Click on the number to reveal the additional documents.

From here, you are able to ask certain questions relating to the documents selected such as "Are there any conflicting statements in these documents?" etc.

This allows the Matter AI to focus on specific data rather than filtering through other unrelated documents, providing you with a more efficient and detailed response.

Overview

 

Upon opening Matter AI, you will be greeted with a welcome message.

Details of the current matter will appear in the top right corner of the window. 

At the bottom of the window is the chat box where you will be able to ask Matter AI questions relating to the current matter.

To get started, type your question or prompt in the chat box and click  or press Enter to send.

 

Prompts

The Try a prompt for that box provides a curated list of legally pre-drafted AI prompts from LEAP’s AI Prompt Library, based on the query you have entered. When a highly relevant AI Prompt is available from the Library, it will be suggested to you. If the suggestion is not needed, it can be dismissed.

Suggestions

You may also select one of the pre-populated Suggestions provided by Matter AI. These suggestions are based on the matter type and the correspondence within the current matter. Suggestion prompts update in real-time depending on the previous questions you've already asked.

Proposed LawY Queries

If your question includes a legal research component, Matter AI will give you the option to invoke LawY to assist.

If you choose to proceed, a version of your research question (excluding any personally identifiable information) will be submitted to LawY, and the response will be incorporated into the Matter AI response.

The time it takes Matter AI to respond is determined by the complexity of the answer and not by the number of correspondence items within the matter.

 

For instance, if the answer contains extensive information or involves any calcuations, Matter AI will require additional time to generate the response.

Reviewing References

 

Depending on the questions asked, answers provided may include references to correspondence items where the origin of the information has been retrieved by Matter AI.

If the Matter AI response has multiple correspondence items attached to the reference, you can click the + icon next to the reference to view all correspondence items used.

This image is not available because: You don’t have the privileges to see it, or it has been removed from the system To view any of the references, click on the document or click on for more options including Open, Chat about this document or Preview. 

You can start a new chat about a specific reference document by with the Chat about this document option. This will open a new chat with the reference document highlighted in the top right corner. 

The Preview option will open the document within the Correspondence Preview window. You will also be able to view all correspondence items on the matter in the left pane.

Regenerate Responses

 

You are able to regenerate any of the Matter AI generated responses by clicking the Regenerateicon in the bottom left corner of the response.

 

Canvas now gives users more control over the AI generated content. No more having Matter AI regenerate full responses just to tweak a paragraph. The Canvas feature turns the AI output into an editable canvas, helping you improve, add, or remove text in the response based on both the selected text and the instruction used. Use the feature by:

  • Selecting the relevant text section of the AI response.
  • Ask Matter AI follow-up questions or provide new instructions specific to the selected text; or
  • Have Matter AI regenerate just that selected text; or
  • Remove any part of the selected text response that you don’t want.

Copying Text

 

You are able to copy the text of any Matter AI generated response by clicking the Copy icon in the bottom left corner of the response.

Sharing Responses

 

You are able to send any of the Matter AI generated chat responses to Microsoft Word or Outlook by clicking the Send icon in the bottom left corner of the response.

You can choose one of the following options to send the response:

  • Microsoft Word - Creates a new Word document and inserts the Matter AI generated response into it.
  • Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Outlook (with attachments) - Generates a new email with the Matter AI generated response automatically included in the email body.

Document Status

 

 The new Document Status view provides a clear overview of the processing state of all documents in your matters, showing whether each has been successfully ingested, is still processing, excluded or has failed.

  1. Open your LEAP Matter.

  2. Make sure you're on the Details & Correspondence tab.

  3. Click Matter AI Chat.

    The Matter AI application will open in a new window.

  4. Navigate to the right of the Matter Name and click the ellipsis  icon.

  5. Select View document status.

    The Documents window will open, allowing you to view the documents that have been loaded into LEAP.

Each matter will include a clear list of the documents' statuses. Click on each button, for example, All, Loading, Loaded, Excluded, or Failed to see only the relevant documents for that status. You may wish to reload (if failed), exclude, chat, or open. 

  1. You can search for a specific document using the 'Search documents' field.

  2. Click the  icon if you want to Refresh the documents.

  3. Clicking the ellipsisicon of each loaded document will have additional options such as, Chat about this document, Exclude document or Open.

Providing feedback on Matter AI generated responses is strongly welcomed.

 

Feedback is reviewed by our team, enabling us to improve the quality of the answers.

Below each Matter AI generated response, you can use the thumbs up or thumbs down buttons  to provide feedback.

You may also provide any written feedback within the text box field.

View Previous Chat History

 

You are able to view the complete history of your previous Matter AI chat sessions for the matter from the left hand side of the window. 

Click on any previous chat session to reopen and continue where you left off.

You can click the button to hide or show the chat history side bar.

Matter AI chat history is visible only by the individual user and not by anyone else. When a colleague opens the same matter, they will not be able to view your Matter AI chat history.
