Importing a Document/Folder into a Matter

Import documents and folders into LEAP Desktop using various methods such as drag and drop and other functions. Learn how to do bulk imports and save PDF's to a matter with LEAP's seamless integration with Adobe Acrobat.

Import a Document Using the Import Function

 

To import document using the Import function, follow these steps:

  1. Open the matter.

  2. Make sure you're on the Details & Correspondence tab.

  3. Right-click anywhere within the Correspondence list and select Import > Import Document.

  4. Find and select the document(s) you wish to import from the Explorer window and click Open.

  5. In the Importing document to this matter window, you can select between the 'Creation Date and Time' and 'Current Date and Time' for one or multiple documents.

  6. Click OK to import.

    The document(s) will be uploaded into the matter and displayed in the Correspondence List.

Import a Folder Using the Import Function

 

  1. Open the matter.

  2. Make sure you're on the Details & Correspondence tab.

  3. Right-click anywhere within the Correspondence list and select Import > Import Folder.

  4. Find and select the folder you wish to import from the Browse for Folder window and click OK.

  5. In the Import Files and Folders to Matter window, you can change between the 'Creation Date and Time' and 'Import Date and Time' for one or multiple documents by right-clicking.

You can drag and drop folders directly into the Import Files and Folders to Matter windows.

  1. Click Import.

    The folder(s) will be imported into the matter and displayed in the Correspondence List.

Drag and Drop Documents into LEAP

 

  1. On your computer, navigate to the documents you wish to import into LEAP and select them.

    Make sure that they're highlighted in the Explorer window.

  2. Open LEAP and either:

    Drag and drop the documents into the matter listed on the Matter List.

    or

    Drag and drop the document into the Correspondence List of an open matter.

  3. If the document creation date is different to the current date, select to keep using the document's creation date and time or use the current date and time.

  4. Click  OK.

    The document(s) will be imported into the matter and displayed in the Correspondence List.

Import a Multi-Folder Directory into a Matter

 

There may be some instances where you have a number of documents relating to different matters on your computer in a directory structure. You can bulk import this directory structure into LEAP.  We recommend that the folder names of the directory structure exactly match existing matter numbers within LEAP.

To create a new bulk import:

  1. On your computer, rename the folders to match existing matter numbers within LEAP.

  2. Organise the documents into the appropriate matter folders.

  3. From the LEAP Matter List, click the LEAP Menu > Other > under Tools > Bulk Folder Import.

  4. Browse to the top-level folder you wish to import into LEAP and click OK.

    The Bulk Folder Import window will open.

Any folders that don't have matching matter numbers are displayed in red, including any deleted matters.

  1. To display only unassigned folders, i.e., those folders that haven't been matched to a matter, click Tools icon and Show Only Unassigned Folders.

  2. You can also avoid importing any duplicated files by clicking Tools icon and selecting Skip Duplicate Files.

  3. Tick the Skip Folder checkbox for a folder to exclude it from the import.

  4. To check the contents of a folder, right-click the folder and select Open Folder.

    You'll be able to view the documents within the folder that are on your computer.

  5. To view the top-level folder of the directory structure, right-click any listed folder and select Open Containing Folder.

  6. To open the matter that the folder is matched within LEAP, right-click the folder and select Open Matter.

  7. To assign the folder to a different matter than the one it was automatically matched with, right-click the folder and choose Select Matter. Find and select the appropriate matter from the list and click Select.

  8. Click Import.

Importing Text Files into LEAP Matters

 

When you import a text file into LEAP correspondence and then edit it using Windows Notepad, saving the changes in Notepad does not automatically update the document in LEAP as Notepad is not integrated with LEAP.

To save updates within LEAP, you can:

  1. Paste the content into a New Comment within the LEAP system.
  2. Paste it into a new Microsoft Word document for further editing.

While the original notepad file can be retained for reference, it is not recommended for ongoing edits.

Print to LEAP

 

  1. From the resource material that you would like to print to the matter, click the Print (or Ctrl + P) button fom the browser or application.

  2. When prompted for a printer, select the printer: Print To LEAP.

  3. Click Print.

    The LEAP Printed Document window will open.

  4. Enter the Document Name.

  5. Search and select the matter you would like to save the resource material.

  6. (Optional) Tick Create New Time/Fee entry if you would like to create a new time or fee entry for the resource material on the matter.

  7. Click OK.

You may preview the document by selecting the Preview Document tab.

Saving PDFs to a Matter

  1. Open a PDF document outside of LEAP.

  2. Click on on the right-hand side panel of the document.

    The LEAP add-on toolbar will display.

If the LEAP icon is not displaying, click on More Tools > Show More and click Add under the LEAP add-on.

  1. Click on the toolbar.

    The Save PDF to LEAP window will open.

  2. Search and select the matter you wish to save the PDF document to.

  3. Click Select.

There is a 120 MB limit for each document imported into LEAP Web. If you need to import larger documents, please import the documents through LEAP Desktop.

  1. Open a matter.

  2. Make sure you're on the Details & Correspondence tab.

  3. Click Import.

    The Explorer window will open.

  4. Find and select the document(s) you wish to import and click Open.

  5. Review your selection(s) in the upload window such as Use current time as created time.

    Import files

  6. Click Upload.

    The document(s) will be uploaded into the matter and displayed in the Correspondence List.
