How To

This article consolidates common questions raised during our recent LEAP AI tools webinars. Its purpose is to offer practical guidance on using LEAP’s AI tools, such as Matter AI, Matter Summary, and LawY. Additionally, it addresses general questions about LEAP forms and matter fields that were discussed during the sessions.

Before You Begin

LEAP’s AI tools are designed to help you work more efficiently by reducing the time spent on routine tasks such as reviewing matter information, summarising files and researching legal questions. This gives your team more time to focus on legal work.

AI tools work best when the information in your matters is complete and accurate. Before using them, ensure the Matter Details and documents within the matter are as up to date as possible.

As with any AI tool, the output should always be reviewed by a member of your team before it is relied on or shared with a client.

Questions and Answers

What should I do if Matter AI is unable to access LawY?

If Matter AI cannot access LawY for you or others in your firm, even when "All" is selected, please reach out to our support team at support@leaplegalsoftware.co.nz for assistance.

This also applies to any similar issue where an AI tool is not behaving as expected.

Are LEAP forms verified by NZ lawyers?

Yes. LEAP forms are created, verified, and regularly updated by our LEAP Content Team, which comprises New Zealand solicitors and legal executives.

The team’s knowledge across areas of law, and their constant eye on legislative changes in New Zealand, helps keep LEAP forms specific to current NZ law.

If you duplicate and customise a LEAP form for your firm, the link to the original is broken and your version will no longer receive these updates. Updates to LEAP forms and precedents are recorded on the LEAP Content Blog.

Can I access a recording of the webinar?

Yes. All webinar recordings are available on our Educational Legal Events and Webinars page.

How do I print a Matter Summary?

There is currently no option to print directly from the Matter Summary screen. However, you can copy the summary into a Word document and print it from there.

To print a Matter Summary:

Open the Matter Summary
Select the copy to clipboard option in the bottom right corner of the window.
Paste the summary into a Word document.
Print the Word document as you normally would.

How do I enable the microphone feature in LawY?

You can dictate into LawY using the Windows voice typing shortcut, Windows key + H. This shortcut works across all applications, including LawY.

To use voice typing in LawY:

Click into the LawY text box where you would normally type.
Press Windows key + H to open voice typing.
Speak your question. Your words will appear in the text box.

What does the capacity field in a matter refer to?

The capacity field is used to define the specific role or legal standing a party holds in a matter.

It is not a mandatory field on every matter type. It is most commonly used in specialised areas of law to record how a person or organisation is involved in the matter.

For example, when acting for a trust, you may need to specify the capacity of the parties involved, such as Trustee or Beneficiary. This ensures documents are automated with the correct legal titles.
